Many people ask How do I tell the difference between the Holy Spirit and my flesh? And that’s a very prudent question to ask. As the bible says, the heart is deceitful, so as we get closer to God, it’s important that we develop a spirit of discernment!
How do you tell between God and the flesh? Keep reading for the answer!

As Jesus Says, Keep it Simple
Apostle Paul warns us of the enemy swaying us because we don’t believe in the simplicity of Christ. Key phrase: simplicity!
But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
2 Corinthians 11:3
When God is talking, it’s clear as day! Go here. Stay there. Help him. Pray for them. The Lord’s word is short and sweet, and it lines up with everything that’s in the bible!

The Fruit is Evident
The next thing is the fruit of the spirit! God is good, and His grace is sweet. If you think you are hearing from Him, look for the evidence of His presence. They are: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
When you’re following the word of God, everything that you do will result in more fruit! In other words, you should see life around you getting better!

The Beatitudes
They said it best on The Chosen: “If someone wants to find me, those are the groups they should look for.” When we’re following Jesus, we’ll find ourselves around the people listed in Matthew 5:3–12 (you may find that you’re one yourself):
- The poor in spirit (the depressed)
- Those who mourn (people who are grieving)
- The meek (the shy, quiet folk)
- Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness (the people who know right from wrong and demand fairness)
- The merciful (kind people)
- The pure in heart
- The peacemakers
- The ones persecuted because of righteousness (those who are punished based on lies)
- The insulted (the people who are always gossiped about or bullied)
Jesus is lowly—he meets us at the very bottom. When the voice you’re listening to is one that brings you around the humble, those in need, and makes you a better person—that’s how you know it’s truly the Father in heaven!

How to Be Sure
Keep a journal! Don’t let things simply happen to you—keep track as the disciples did. Write down what you see and hear, then find a scripture that supports it!
If you find one (or a few), you’re in the presence of God! But if you don’t, try spending a little more time reading the Word!
