You’ve made it!

You’re sitting at a café with a warm drink in hand. The church bells have just finished ringing. Your camera roll is already full, but somehow it still doesn’t capture everything you’re feeling.

That’s where your travel journal comes in.

Forget trying to write the perfect travel diary. The best journals are messy, honest, funny, and full of little moments you’d otherwise forget. Here are a few fun ideas to help you fill each page!

1. Give Thanks to God

First things first!

Write down a prayer before you begin the day. Record a Bible verse that encouraged you. Thank God for something unexpected, or write about a conversation that reminded you of His faithfulness!

You could even finish this sentence every evening:

“Today I saw God…”

One day, you’ll flip back through these pages and be reminded of just how faithfully He walked beside you.

2. Become the Storyteller

Imagine you’re writing the next chapter of your favorite travel book!

Describe the moment you first saw the city skyline. Write about the smell of fresh bread drifting through the streets. Record the funniest thing that happened today or the view that made you stop walking.

Try prompts like:

  • What made me smile today?
  • What’s one moment I never want to forget?
  • If today were a movie, what would the title be?
  • What surprised me most?

The little details are often the ones you’ll treasure most years from now.

3. Make Every Page an Adventure

Your journal doesn’t have to be all words.

Rate today’s coffee out of 10. Sketch the view from your hotel window. Tape in a train ticket, museum pass, or pressed flower. Write down the funniest phrase you heard, the best meal you ate, or the song that was playing when you watched the sunset.

Try a few of these:

  • Best meal of the day
  • Coffee rating
  • Favorite church
  • Best view
  • Funniest moment
  • Something I’m grateful for
  • One thing I’d tell a friend to do here

There are no rules—only memories worth keeping.

4. Capture the People

Some of the best parts of travel aren’t the landmarks—they’re the people.

Write about the café owner who welcomed you with a smile, the family you met on a walking tour, or the local who gave you directions. Record a kind conversation, a funny misunderstanding, or a piece of advice you’ll never forget.

Try these prompts:

  • Who made my day better?
  • What’s one conversation I’ll always remember?
  • What did I learn from someone today?
  • If I could thank one person from today, who would it be?

5. Dream About What’s Next

Every journey inspires another one!

Before you leave, spend a page dreaming about where God might lead you next. List the places you’d love to visit, the foods you want to try, the churches you’d like to worship in, or the countries you’re praying over.

Write down:

  • My next dream destination…
  • A country I’m praying for…
  • One place I want to revisit…
  • What I hope God teaches me on my next trip…

Your Future Self Will Thank You

Long after the suitcase is unpacked and the souvenirs have found a place on the shelf, your journal will still hold the moments that made the journey special.

Not just where you went, but who you met, what made you laugh, what took your breath away, and how God surprised you along the way!

Set down your phone for a few minutes, pick up a pen, and start writing. Years from now, you’ll be glad you did!
