Where is Gimmelwald?
Gimmelwald is located in the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland, perched nearly 4,500 feet (1,363 meters) above sea level on the cliffs overlooking the Lauterbrunnen Valley.
Gimmelwald is completely car-free. Visitors arrive by cable car after traveling through the valley town of Stechelberg or from neighboring Mürren.
With fewer than 150 permanent residents, it remains one of Switzerland’s smallest mountain communities.

Best Things to Do in Gimmelwald
Wander Through the Village
One of the greatest pleasures of Gimmelwald is simply walking.
Narrow footpaths wind between weathered chalets, barns, gardens, and grazing pastures. During summer, wildflowers bloom along nearly every trail. In winter, fresh snow transforms the village into a quiet alpine retreat.
Hike the Northface Trail
One of the area’s most rewarding hikes is the Northface Trail, which begins in nearby Mürren.
The route circles beneath the towering walls of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau, offering incredible mountain panoramas while remaining accessible for most hikers.

Walk to Mürren
