A good suit makes a statement. A successful career reflects hard work. And a life rooted in Christ? It begins with the heart.
Men carry responsibilities in their careers, families, and personal ambitions. There are goals to pursue, challenges to overcome, and expectations to meet. Whether you’re building a career, preparing for marriage, leading a family, or figuring out your next chapter, it’s worth asking one important question: What is happening in your heart?
Scripture makes it clear that God looks beyond outward appearances. He cares about the man you are when nobody is watching, the decisions you make when the pressure is on, and the desires that influence your life. Strength isn’t just about what you can accomplish; it’s also about having the humility to obey God, turn away from sin, and let Jesus shape your character.
This is your invitation to open your Bible, grab your journal, and spend a little time with the Lord.

1. Real Strength Starts Within
“Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” — Matthew 5:8 (KJV)
Your journal prompt: Where are you tempted to prioritize other people’s approval over obedience to God? What would it look like to pursue integrity in that area of your life?

2. Guard What Shapes You
“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” — Proverbs 4:23 (KJV)
Your journal prompt: Which influences are helping you grow in Christ, and which are pulling you away from Him? What boundary or habit do you need to establish?

3. Have the Courage to Start Again
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” — Psalm 51:10 (KJV)
Your journal prompt: Is there a sin you need to confess, a relationship you need to address, or a habit you need to change? Write a prayer asking God to renew your heart and help you take the next step.

4. Put Your Priorities in Order
“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” — Matthew 6:21 (KJV)
Your journal prompt: What currently receives the greatest share of your time, attention, and energy? What’s one practical change you can make this week to put God first?

5. Lead by Example
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16 (KJV)
Your journal prompt: Where could your words or actions reflect Jesus more clearly this week? Name one person you can serve, encourage, forgive, or treat with greater kindness.

Your Five-Minute Heart Check
Set aside five minutes, find a comfortable spot, and spend time with these passages. You don’t need elaborate answers. Simply be honest with God about where you are and where you want to grow.
- Matthew 5:8: Am I seeking God’s approval above the approval of others?
- Proverbs 4:23: What am I allowing to shape my heart and mind?
- Psalm 51:10: Where do I need God’s forgiveness and renewal?
- Matthew 6:21: Do my daily priorities reflect what I say matters most?
- Matthew 5:16: How can I reflect the character of Jesus in my relationships?
A Prayer for a Pure Heart
Heavenly Father, search my heart and show me what needs to change. Help me recognize the thoughts, habits, and desires that pull me away from You. Give me the courage to turn from sin, the wisdom to guard my heart, and the humility to receive Your correction.
Make me a man who loves Your Word, obeys Your commands, and serves others with integrity. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
